Within the next five years, the Academic Resource Center will become a premier learning center, recognized for its dynamic support services designed to engage student performance while cultivating academic success. The Academic Resource Center’s professional staff and student leaders also will be recognized for their expertise and use of best-practices in area of student support.

Learning Outcomes

After visiting the ARC on a regular basis, students will:

  • 1.1: Practice self-advocacy through use of academic and student support services.
  • 1.2: Work collaboratively with fellow students outside the classroom.
  • 1.3: Develop effective study skill strategies (i.e., concentration, note-taking, critical thinking/problem solving, motivation, critical reading, test preparation, test-taking, etc.).
  • 2.1: Demonstrate use of critical thinking/higher order thinking skills.
  • 2.2: Utilize self-regulation strategies regarding time-management, priorities, and goal setting.
  • 2.3: Explore learning styles preferences, relating them to university coursework.
  • 3.1: Complete targeted courses, thus reducing the withdrawal (W) rate, especially in traditionally difficult courses.
  • 3.2: Earn successful course grades (A, B, C) in targeted courses.
  • 3.3: Improve their cumulative GPA.
  • 4.1: Engage in best practices related to first-year learning communities.
  • 4.2: Participate in study skills strategies that promote interaction with faculty and staff.
  • 4.3: Take advantage of leadership opportunities within the ARC.
