Chemistry Placement Exam
The Chemistry Placement Exam is used by UCR to assess student readiness for University work. Students must satisfy placement requirements through the Mathematics Advisory Exam or the Chemistry Placement Exam before registering for Chemistry 1A at UCR. Examination results are used for advising and placement purposes only; unit credit cannot be earned with these exams. The fee to take the exam is $20.
There are a few ways in which a student can enroll in Chemistry 1A.
- Pass the Chemistry AP exam with a 3 or higher
OR - Eligibility to enroll in Calculus at UCR (Math 9A or Math 8B); either by placing into it via the math placement exam (MAE) OR passing the Calculus AB or BC exam with a 3 or higher
OR - Pass the Chemistry Placement exam
Students should determine their math placement before contacting us about taking the CCDT. If you did not pass the AP exam for Chemistry or Math, then you should take the MAE before taking the CCDT.
The CCDT is only given in September before classes start. A schedule and reservation form will be posted in early August on this website.
If special accommodations for testing are needed due to a disability, please contact Services for Students with Disabilities. Appropriate documentation of need for accommodations must be provided prior to approval of testing arrangements.
