Mathematics Advisory Exam (MAE) Retest Option

retest option is for new freshmen or transfer students that have not taken a math class at UCR.

Starting in May 2017, students that take the MAE at any location in May or June may have a chance to take one part of the MAE a second time. Upon completion of a set preparation objectives, students will be allowed to take one part of the MAE again. Once a student has retaken one part of the MAE, they may not retake any part or parts of the exam again. Math 7A and Math 9A are the highest placements that can be attained on the MAE. Retaking the MAE with one of these placement will not change your placement.

The conditions to become eligible to retake the MAE are as follows (all conditions must be met):

  1. You are a new incoming student (freshmen or transfer) to UCR.
  2. You take the exam in May or June (at any testing location) prior to your first quarter of matriculation, i.e. you haven't taken any classes at UCR yet.
  3. You must complete a set of Preparation Objectives in an online learning system. Currently, that system is ALEKS and costs $40 to access. These objectives must be completed 2 days before you plan to take the MAE for a second time.
  4. Retakes of the MAE must be completed by the last available retest date in August. No retests will be allowed after the last date posted on the MAE website.

Prep Objectives Details

There are a 7 Objectives total. Student must complete the objectives at the percentages listed below in order to become eligible to retake one part of the MAE. Only one part of the MAE will be taken again to determine a new placement. The higher of the 2 score on that part will be used to determine placement.

Below is the criteria you must achieve on each objective in order to be eligible to retake one part of the MAE. Which part you are eligible to retake depends on how many objectives you complete and how well you do on those objectives. Your percentage is recorded and determined by the score in the ALEKS gradebook (not via the pie).
